Pinguicula ‘Pirouette’ is a highly desirable Mexican butterwort hybrid (Pinguicula agnata × P. moranensis) known for its elegant, symmetrical rosette of broad, slightly undulated leaves that range from pale green to rich pinkish-lavender depending on light intensity. The carnivorous leaves are coated with mucilaginous glands that effectively trap and digest small insects such as fungus gnats, making it a functional as well as ornamental specimen.
This cultivar is prized for its prolific flowering habit. The blooms, typically violet or lilac with a darker throat, rise above the foliage on slender scapes and can occur multiple times per year with proper care.
Medium sized 2.5cm (1inch) rosette plants for sale, shipped bare-root and carefully packaged by carnivorous plants experts for super healthy arrival.
Growing Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light to filtered sun. Moderate to high light enhances pigmentation and encourages flowering.
- Watering: Use distilled, rain, or RO water. Keep moderately moist during the active growing (carnivorous) season. Reduce watering during dormancy when leaves become more succulent.
- Humidity: Moderate; tolerant of typical indoor humidity levels but appreciates ~50–70%.
- Soil: Loose, well-draining mix; typically a blend of peat, perlite, and sand or pumice. Avoid nutrient-rich soils.
- Temperature: Optimal range 60–80°F (15–27°C). Not frost-tolerant.
- Dormancy: Enters a succulent dormancy with thicker, non-carnivorous leaves in cooler or drier conditions.
- Bloom Color: Lavender to violet.
- Flowering Period: Intermittent; can bloom multiple times per year under optimal conditions
- Mature Size: Rosette up to 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter
